How much do tattoo artist charge on average per hour for touch ups?
I live in Arizona. I have this rather large tattoo on my back that has been driving me crazy for years because it isn’t finished… it is a little faded and some of the outlining and color isn’t finished. I went to a place that is close to my house and they said 0 per hour and couldn’t really give me an estimate on time because he wanted to gage it by doing the first session. Does this seem too expensive? I just don’t want to get into something that will cost me a fortune. here is a link to my tattoo.. s51.photobucket.com/albums/f400/Sunshine093369/?action=view¤t=DSC02581-1.jpg
I thought I should add that he recommends re-doing the entire tattoo so the color is all fresh, I agree that if I don’t, it will look funny.

For free? If you live in AZ.. where at? Lol. I have never been told I could get it fixed for free yet ![]()
I don’t know shops who will touch up another artists work for free. I don’t even know artists who will touch up their own work after many years for free. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find one, but at this point it’s not so much a touch up as it is a refresh or redo. If it’s possible to go back to where you originally got it, I’d do that and see what they can work out price wise, otherwise I’d approach it like you were looking for a brand new artist. Ask to see portfolios, make sure the shop is clean and you feel comfortable there, and don’t make a decision based on price. $120 an hour seems fair if they meet all your criteria. I live in Maryland and my shop is $150.

LikeDislikeMy tattoo artist is the same 120 and hour or by the piece that is being done. I am sure part of it depends on where you live and how many tattoo places are around but most people I have ever talked too about tattoo’s are around the same price. 100 – 120 an hour is normal.

LikeDislikeBoth Parlors I’ve had my tattoos done at do the touch ups for free. Even if they are done by another artist. Standard etiquette should apply though, (hint: tip).
Edit: lol I’m in Michigan.
